Hands On: Sony ZV-E10 II - the new highlight for your content creation?
Sony's ZV-E10 has been a popular camera for content creation for several years now. Now Sony has introduced a successor to the camera, the ZV-E10 II. In this blog post, you can find out what exactly Sony has improved in this camera and whether it is an upgrade to the ZV-E10.
Changes to the Body
Before we talk about the camera's inner values, let's take a look at the body and see what external changes there are compared to the previous model. At first glance, not too much has changed here, but there are a few small changes: instead of the usual toggle button, the camera now has a switch button for setting the individual modes, which makes it much easier to switch between the different modes.
In addition, Sony has given the new ZV-E10 II a new microphone which, thanks to its 3 capsules, is able to provide different directional characteristics that can either be selected manually or automatically. For example, you can record the sound behind the camera when showing an object or a landscape, but work with the front microphone for classic vlogging.
The grip on the new ZV-E10 II has also become a little larger, so that the tried and tested NP-FZ100 batteries now also fit into the camera.
The new sensor
With the ZV-E10, Sony is closing the gap between the content creation-oriented cameras of the ZV series with a fixed lens and the flexible Sony Alpha cameras with interchangeable lenses. The new ZV-E10 II has the same 26MP sensor that we already know from the Alpha 6700 and FX 30. There are also some changes to the shutter compared to the previous model: Sony now only uses the electronic shutter, the manual shutter has been removed.
Autofocus and processor
While the ZV-E10 has 425 autofocus points, the new ZV-E10 II is equipped with a full 759 autofocus points - even more than the Sony Alpha ZV-E1. This means that 94% of the sensor is covered with autofocus sensors.
Like the sensor, the built-in BIONZ X processor is also an old acquaintance. We already know it from the ZV-E1. Unfortunately, the ZV-E10 II has not been equipped with the AI unit that was also installed there.

Focus on video
As you would expect from a camera designed for content creation and vlogging, the biggest technical developments have been made in the video area. Compared to its predecessor, the new ZV-E10 II has once again made significant improvements in terms of both video functions and video quality. 5.6K oversampling, 4k 60p and - of particular interest to professionals - 10 bit video and S-Cinetone are now included.
Sony has also significantly increased the color profiles and introduced some improvements. While the ZV-E10 has a number of Creative Styles to offer, the new ZV-E10 II now also includes some Creative Looks, User Lut Import and Cinematic Vlog Settings, which we already know from the ZV-E1.
The camera's electronic stabilization has also been significantly improved and adapted to the camera's APS-C sensor with a higher crop factor of 1.5. Last but not least, Sony has also made significant improvements in terms of focus breathing and rolling shutter
And the new ZV-E10 II is also interesting for streamers. The camera can now also stream RTMP/RTMPS/SRT services directly through your phone. For this purpose, the integrated WI-Fi module has also been upgraded to the current 5 Ght standard and the USB port has been equipped with a fast data transfer rate of 5 Gbps. The streaming quality that can be transmitted as a result is 4K 30p and FHD60p.

Conclusion:

It is easy to operate and is now equipped with even more features and a smart touch UI, which are extremely helpful for content creation and vlogging. A lot has changed here compared to its predecessor, especially in the video area, which makes the ZV-E10 II a real upgrade for your content production.
