For Canon the Lenses with an EF bayonet are suitable for the Canon EOS digital cameras. EF stands for "electronic focus", which also names the main feature of this lens development, the autofocus motor, which is not in the camera body in this case but in the lens, and which is equipped with a USM (ultrasonic motor). The particularly compact and lightweight Canon EF-M bayonets are for the single-lens reflex camera Canon EOS developed lenses ? EOS means "Electro-Optical-System".
Within the very wide range of Lenses for Nikon the lenses of the DX-Nikkor series (all with F bayonet) were developed for the in-house digital SLR camera. Furthermore, Nikon offers the AF-S lenses, an autofocus series that are similar to Canon lenses with USM and use a quiet ultrasonic motor. On the Nikon, this feature is called a "Silent Wave" motor (SWM).
For the SLR and full-frame cameras from Sony (A-mount, E-mount) the Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) ensures smooth autofocus operation with outstanding optical performance and soft bokeh. Also available are ZEISS collaborations with Sony: onnar, Planar and Distagon, all lenses of the finest quality with powerful SSM (Super Sonic Wave Motor) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) for minimal aberration. In this segment, which is already moving towards the upper class, the outstanding haptics also stand out.
Tamron or Sigma offer lenses suitable for Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony full-frame, SLR and system cameras. Amongst them are also wonderfully compact lenses with a Micro-Four-Thirds mount, which come into play with cameras from Olympus or Panasonic Olympus itself also offers lenses, some with a metallic look, with image stabilizer and super performance, from fast wide-angle to telephoto zoom. For Fujifilm the zooms, macro or fixed focal lengths from Fujifilm of the AF and XF series are suitable, partly also for medium format. Lenses of optimum shooting quality and outstanding image performance, such as lenses for analogue and digital photography, are offered by Fujifilm Pentax D and DA series of lenses for both medium and full-frame formats. Some of these lenses feature a specially developed front lens coating, SP ? "Super Protect" technology, to protect against dirt and damage.
In the price-conscious segment of branded Samyang or Lensbaby the enthusiastic photographer finds lenses suitably f?r Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon, Sony or Pentax or in a comparable price class of Danubia. The latter can be connected to all common SLR cameras with adapters, whereas the Lenses by D?rr like those from Holga in the lower price segment fit cameras from Nikon, Canon and Pentax Tokina offers lenses for modern full-frame cameras from Nikon, Canon and Sony with brilliant sharpness, high focusing speed and setting accuracy. Those who plan to buy Top lenses from Leica ? Elmarit, Summicron, Summilux ? already move in the upper price range, whereas the Lenses from Meyer-Optik-G?rlitz in the middle to upper price segment are intended for cameras from Leica, Fujifilm, Canon, Nikon and Sony. Here, renowned lenses such as Nocturnus with high light sensitivity and noiseless focus adjustment or Primoplan ? a masterpiece of portrait photography ? should be mentioned. If you want to own the best of the best, check out Hasselblad and have a look around: From lenses for portraits, over travel and standard photography to a strong wide-angle lens, the range of very high-priced, but unrivaled lenses for the Hasselblad XCD.
