  • Full-frame autofocus Lens
  • with Sony E-mount
  • Wide-angle focal length

The ZEISS Batis 2/25 wide-angle lens has ten elements in eight groups and uses the ZEISS Distagon optical design. It has four double-sided aspherical lens elements and five special glass elements. The aspherical lens design ensures consistent imaging performance across the entire field of view and sharpness at the periphery of the image. The moderate angle of view of 82 degrees in conjunction with the maximum possible close-up setting of 0.2 meters make the wide-angle lens an ideal companion beyond classic architecture and landscape photography. Especially at close range, it offers compositional possibilities in playing with the depth of field, which can lead to surprising results.

ZEISS Batis 2/25 and ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 are the first full-frame autofocus Lens for Sony E-mount cameras to be developed and distributed exclusively by ZEISS. This new lens family is particularly suitable for full-frame mirrorless system cameras of the Sony Alpha series. Delivery of the two lenses will start in July 2015.

"With the Batis lens family, we are launching pure ZEISS autofocus lenses, i.e. lenses developed and distributed exclusively by us, for Sony full-frame cameras with E-mount for the first time," says Dr. Michael Pollmann, Product Manager ZEISS Camera Lenses. The Sony Alpha full-frame system with E-mount, currently consisting of the family of 7 cameras, is one of the most innovative camera systems and is increasingly becoming an alternative for professionals and those switching from DSLRs. "With the ZEISS Batis Lens, we are underlining this development and providing creative and demanding photographers with professional tools," says Pollmann. The lenses are easy to use and yet professional in their handling. They are therefore also a future-proof investment for amateur photographers: "Not only camera sensors, but also photographers are constantly evolving. The Batis Lens perfectly reflects these developments and heralds a new era of professional photography with mirrorless full-frame cameras," says Pollmann.

Wide range of applications and modern design
The ZEISS Batis 2/25 and ZEISS Batis 1.8/85 are the first two focal lengths to be launched on the market that have been increasingly requested by users of the system: a moderate wide-angle focal length and a telephoto portrait focal length. The lenses make optimum use of the camera sensors and reward users with impressive contrast and high image resolution down to the smallest detail. In addition to the fast and precise autofocus, manual focus is of course also possible, allowing the user to react flexibly and independently to different situations. The modern and clear design with smooth surfaces, which is already familiar from the high-end ZEISS Otus lenses, underlines the advanced claim and ensures the distinctiveness of the new ZEISS Lens.

Features for demanding users
"Due to numerous customer requests, we have decided to integrate a focus distance display into the new Batis Lens," says Pollmann. The innovative OLED display is therefore an absolute highlight for discerning users - an innovation that has never been seen before in photographic lenses. The electronic display can be read reliably even in low ambient light. The distance of the focal plane from the camera system and the depth of field are displayed. In addition, the ZEISS Batis Lens is dust and splash-proof, enabling photography even in the most difficult weather conditions. The fast and quiet autofocus drive with linear motors ensures precise focusing of subjects even in hectic shooting situations. The lenses can also be focused manually using a non-slip, rubberized focus ring, giving the user complete creative freedom when composing images.
