The amazing performance of the Art series in a compact Lens. Available for L-mount and Sony E-mount.
Expressive power at the highest level, high-speed AF and compactness - all combined in perfection.
The new standard for a fast "Art F1.4" standard prime.
Designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and tremendous expressive power, our Art product line delivers high artistic quality. The newest member of the F1.4 series, which has become synonymous with the Art product line, is the SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art, a wide-aperture standard lens designed specifically for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
Maintaining the concept of the original SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, which defined the prestige of the Art F1.4 series, from the very beginning of development we examined what really matters in a standard lens in a wide variety of shooting situations.
The standard fixed focal length of the Art series
Available for cameras with L-mount and Sony E-mount
During the development of the SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art, we also focused on slimming down the lens barrel by reducing the weight of a focus lens and optimizing the layout of the lens unit. The goal was to achieve the "optimal size" for mirrorless systems without compromising the "maximum optical performance" concept of the Art line.
Super Multi-Layer Coating
Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML) prevents reflections and ghosting. This ensures sharp and high-contrast images.
Splash-proof
Thanks to its dust- and splash-proof design, the lens is suitable for a wide range of applications and environments.
Part of the Art product line
Our Art product line stands for sophisticated optical performance and high expressiveness and is suitable for special artistic expression.
Brass bayonet
The lens is equipped with a solid and precise brass bayonet. The special surface treatment to reinforce strength enables long-lasting use.
Optical performance to the highest standards
The "Art F1.4" standard with uncompromising optical performance
Based on the latest optical design technology, the Lens contains 14 elements in 11 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses and 1 SLD glass element. This optical design effectively eliminates various aberrations, such as astigmatism and field curvature, which cannot be corrected by the camera.
Despite the large F1.4 aperture, imaging performance has not been neglected even at the edges of the image, and sagittal coma has been minimized to such an extent that this Lens can withstand astro and low-light photography with challenging subjects and point light sources at wide open aperture. In addition to a clear image without color blur over the entire image circle, the natural, soft bokeh comes into its own at F1.4.
F1.4 yet compact
Extensive features and high build quality
The Lens offers a focus mode switch, an aperture ring click switch to turn the click on and off when selecting the aperture via the aperture ring, and an aperture ring lock switch to prevent unintentional adjustment of the aperture ring. Furthermore, it has an AFL button that can be assigned any camera function depending on the camera model. All functions can be operated intuitively.
The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is dust- and splash-proof and the front lens of the Lens has a water- and oil-repellent coating, making it suitable for challenging shooting environments. The Lens is compact, lightweight and easy to use, while offering the high build quality ensured by the Aizu factory's reliable "Made in Japan" processing technology.
New high-speed AF - for fast and comfortable shooting
The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is the first model in the Art product line designed exclusively for full-frame mirrorless cameras and uses the "HLA" linear motor (High-response Linear Actuator). In addition, by using a single double-sided aspherical lens as the focus element, the Lens offers fast and quiet focusing and high tracking performance despite its large aperture.
With a maximum aperture of F1.4 and a powerful AF system, the Lens can be used in a wide range of situations, including low-light shooting, shooting moving subjects, snapshots, and even video.
High-quality coating
An ideal lens directs incident light through all the lenses and onto the sensor.
If, on the other hand, some of the light is reflected by individual lenses, not only does the light yield decrease; the reflections within the lens create ghost images and aperture spots, or they reduce contrast. Such effects would be particularly noticeable in backlit shots.
To prevent this, our 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art uses a Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML), as well as a Nano Porous Coating (NPC) that reduces flare and ghosting. The result is clear, sharp, high-contrast images without distracting lens flares.
For full-frame cameras
The 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras with L-mount or Sony E-mount.
A new HLA stepper motor is used for fast focusing. Auto focus with automatic eye detection used in newer mirrorless cameras is also supported; this makes precise focusing of portraits, for example, child's play.
DG Lens - SIGMA's DG lenses are designed for demanding use on digital cameras with sensors up to 24x36mm format (colloquially known as full-frame). The use of state-of-the-art coating processes successfully eliminates ghosting caused by reflections on the sensor surface, while achieving balanced color and superior optical performance.
Since these lenses also illuminate the 24x36mm analog film format, their use is also possible on some suitable analog cameras, although we ask that you consult us on a case-by-case basis.
DN L ens - High-performance lenses designed exclusively for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The latest technology in lens development ensures high optical performance, compact design and quiet autofocus. Excellent telecentricity ensures sharp, high-resolution image quality across the entire image plane.
ASP - Normally, rays near the edge are refracted more toward the center when passing through a lens than rays near the axis. Therefore, images taken with an uncorrected system may be blurred toward the edge. Aspherical correction of an optical system now corrects numerous aberrations at once. Sharpness is achieved across the entire field of view, distortion is reduced to a minimum, and the Lens can be made smaller and lighter because of our advanced correction methods. Almost all of our Lenses are equipped with at least one aspherical lens element.
